Year Eight Update

Amazingly, we are in our eight year of improvements since transfer in September 2003.  In that time, we've completed the major five year transfer programme and have continued with further improvements.

The last three years have seen us concentrate on bathroom, heating, roofing and boundary improvements and this will continue after the next two years.

In 2011/12 we will be carrying out nearly £3.5m of improvements in the Beswick, Clayton and Openshaw areas.  These are the main projects:

Clayton bathrooms

£500,000 to complete our major bathroom renewal programme

Heating

£300,000 to address failing boilers across all three areas

Clayton rear fencing

£500,000 to continue this highly successful project, carried out by our own in-house fencing team

Grey Mare Lane security improvements

Works totalling £70,000 to improve the entrances, stairwells and environment around the Grey Mare Lane maisonnettes

Beswick rear walls phase 1

£900,000 to address much-needed rebuilding work to rear boundary walls.  This will be carried out by Henry Boot Ltd.  Phase 2 will take place in 2012/13.

Clayton roofing programme

A further £500,000 to carry out essential reroofing and repointing works in the Clayton area.

Openshaw Village external improvements

We will start a programme to renew fascia boards that are in poor condition.  This will continue into 2012/13.

Communal lighting

We will install new LED lighting in any communal areas.  These are more energy efficient and will help to save electricity costs in the future.

Footpath renewal

We have set aside £75,000 to tackle footpaths that are in a very poor condition.

Garage refurbishment

We will refurbish all garages in Beswick, Clayton and Openshaw to bring them up to a better condition.
