Job training and volunteering

Anyone who is not in paid employment and claiming working age benefits is ‘Workless’ as defined by the Dept. of Work & Pensions.  This definition refers to all Job Seekers Allowance, Incapacity Benefit/Employment Support Allowance and Income Support Claimants of working age.

Eastlands Homes recognises the effects that being workless has on people and the negative impact on communities where levels of ‘worklessness’ are especially high.  We understand that tackling worklessness is difficult, especially in areas where two/three generations have been without work or, in the case of younger people, may have never worked.  Nevertheless addressing this issue is crucial in moving us towards our vision of sustainable and thriving Great Neighbourhoods.

We must take every opportunity to use our contacts with tenants to engage them in thinking positively about seeking and gaining employment and signpost those to the relevant specialist services listed in this guide.

These organisations focus on helping with training, education, skills development and job-finding, with several specialising in services tailored to the needs of particular groups.  They are there to be used and welcome our involvement.

Use this guide and help make a real difference to the life chances of our tenants and their families. Click on any of the links below to find out more.
